Training & Development Specialist - Enviornmental Health and Safety - (190001A1)
The University of Maryland, Baltimore has an opening for a Training Specialist to work in the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). The Training Specialist engages a diverse variety of people in learning situations related to EHS topics, applying adult learning theory in developing multifaceted modern learning solutions (such as instructor-led training and online educational programs). The Training Specialist is expected to function independently in delivering training and developing training materials, and helping to assess its effectiveness. Solutions require considerable analysis and evaluation of various alternatives. Independently anticipates needs and requirements to resolve non-routine matters.
The Department of Environmental Health and Safety is charged with developing and implementing programs to enhance safety at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The department provides consultation and services to research laboratories, clinical areas, facilities, and offices in the areas of chemical, biological, and radioactive materials safety; occupational safety and industrial hygiene; fire safety; environmental and hazardous waste management; risk management and insurance claims management.

Works with heads of different EHS areas to perform analysis, identify training needs, and obtain approval of training plans and materials.
Select appropriate training methods, design, develop, evaluate and continuously update all training materials (lesson plans, tip sheets, eLearning scripts, job aids, assessments and surveys).
Build, test, and maintain a training environment as applicable.
Monitor and evaluate training and coach as needed to ensure quality.
Develop and maintain processes to properly track and document training.
Assist with development, implementation, tracking, and analysis of department performance metrics and annual reports.
Develop and implement strategies to mass communicate information on environmental health and safety topics.
Deliver training as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: Two (2) years related training experience Other: Related experience may be substituted for minimum education requirement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
The Hiring Range for this position is low $60,000s to low $70,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
