Department Description The Patient Transport Services department provides coordinated, centrally dispatched transportation services for patients being treated in the outpatient clinics and the inpatient units and diagnostic areas. Applications from the public will generally be considered if a current employee is not selected.ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Patient Escort will transport patients between patient care areas by wheelchair, gurney, and bed within the main hospital. This position will also provide a comprehensive orientation and training program for new Patient Escort/Patient Transporters. Required Qualifications
Extensive patient escort experience in a hospital setting.
Experience safely operating wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and specialty beds.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques, and skill to transport patients without injury to self, patient, or others.
Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate infection control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients.
Basic knowledge of CPR, O2, IV's/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, foley bags, and chest tubes.
Experience recognizing problems with life support equipment or a sudden change in a patient's condition, and to report it to a licensed care provider.
Experience dealing effectively and kindly with patients who may be confused, upset, incoherent, and/or aggressive.
Experience instructing student trainees, volunteers, and new employees in patient transfer techniques and other patient transport duties.
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
