Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures and full range of planning skills and expertise; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Operates with considerable independence in concept planning, project definition and feasibility phases of major construction projects.
The Facilities Data Specialist (Planning Specialist 3) works closely with Capital Program Management, Facilities Management, other campus professionals and external firms to support campus facilities planning and operations. Creates, manages, maintains, and transforms the as-maintained models and associated drawings. Prepares and develops BIM/CAD floor plans, site maps, and models in support of campus data systems such as Tririga IWMS and related BIM and GIS frameworks under development.
Responsibilities include surveying and updating field-accurate spatial elements, floor plans, and updating models. The BIM Specialist provides subject expertise, consultation, recommendations on BIM/CAD issues, and helps develop the campus BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and BIM protocols.
Graduation from college in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture, Facilities, Information Technology, Planning or related discipline and four years of experience in facility, floor plan, drafting, mapping, design and space analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
In-depth knowledge and application of BIM modeling/CAD drafting terminology, methods, practices, and techniques.
Knowledge of building information modeling (BIM), competence with Revit BIM software.
Demonstrated relevant experience and specialized abilities using AutoDesk Revit and AutoCAD software in an architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Thorough knowledge of and direct experience working with BIM/CAD data standards and to effectively ensure the efforts of design and construction project teams meet compliance and standard requirements.
Working knowledge of facilities management, planning and analysis concepts, and information system requirements.
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, draft and revise construction models, files, and drawings, including architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing disciplines and civil engineering and utility plans.
Ability to successfully establish and maintain positive and goal-oriented working relationships with a diverse population. Must exhibit good interpersonal skills and diplomacy.
Demonstrated ability to independently identify and define issues and problems relevant to BIM/CAD management, investigate sources of information and design appropriate research by applying industry accepted methods and standards.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen. Strong communication skills to clearly convey information to a wide variety of people in written form, in person and by phone.
Demonstrated understanding of the design and construction process, and how CAD supports project activity.
Demonstrated ability to develop policies and establish business practice guidelines.Demonstrated business management skills.
Preferred/Other Desirable Skills:
Expert knowledge of IBM Tririga or similar software (FM Systems, Archibus, etc.) and related tools (GIS, Rhino, Sketchup).
Experience in higher education space planning and programming and space utilization analyses.
DOJ and FBI background check and clearances required prior to hire.
