Acts as liaison between Dental Service, the patient, and insurance companies.

Ensures proper phone coverage by answering telephone promptly in a courteous manner, identifying self and department at all times. Assists caller in any way possible, routing to appropriate personnel. Maintains complete and accurate telephone or visitor messages for department personnel.
Understands when calls need to be handled by clinician.
Follows up on test results when requested by clinicians.
Has the ability to act appropriately in emergency response situations.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient and department information at all times.
Follows HUHS confidentiality policy.
Maintains appointment systems to ensure efficient utilization of department time.
Schedules appointments for patients according to established procedures.
Acknowledges appointments at end of session.
Has the ability to anticipate scheduling conflicts, resolving conflicts prior to appointments. Anticipates needs to team prior to scheduling.
Documents appointment information accurately and notify appropriate individual according to procedure.
Schedules follow-up referral appointment for patients, ensuring patients are notified of appropriate appointment times.
Maintains records. Handles medical records in a timely manner to ensure the prompt retrieval of information, pulling and preparing records for appointments. Maintain patients' charts in a sequential order according to established procedures.
Files correspondence, reports and patient charts appropriately. Duplicates and collates materials as needed.
Assists in completion of appropriate forms.
Sorts out inactive records for deposit in archives.
Prepares lab requisitions for submission to the clinical laboratory.
Covers for other staff assistants as necessary.
Strives to improve continually. Proposes ideas for improving quality. Works, listens and responds to team members to help team and Department functions cohesively.
Maintains inventory of supplies; orders and stocks supplies as necessary.
Types and composes correspondence as necessary.
Serves as liaison to Dentist's panel of patients and maintain their appointment schedules.
Manages phone queues.
Archives records in department.
Is knowledgeable about all insurances.
Learns fee schedule rates and co-payment amounts.
Knows the opening and closing procedures.
This is a 28 hours per week, 9-month term position.

High school diploma or GED with Patient service experience. Microsoft Office skills and prior billing experience.
Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills.
