Roads & Grounds Facilities Director - Facilities & Services 13836
The Facilities and Services department at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Facilities Director Roads & Grounds. This position is responsible for providing overall direction, coordination, supervision and implementation of activities for 24/7, 365 day/year facilities operations.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Organize, plan, schedule and implement activities for facilities operations.

Deliver high quality service that enhances the student, faculty, staff, and visitor experience at West Virginia University while effectively managing human and material resources. Continually seek ways to minimize both internal and external costs while maintaining high levels of service through sustainable work practices.
Implement preventative and predictive maintenance systems for facilities. Prepare deferred maintenance lists for needed repairs.
Develop models to evaluate current and future staffing levels and incorporate them into a workable, long-range strategy to ensure maximum support to the University mission. Provide leadership to staff to assure on-going training, certifications and licensing needs are identified, and appropriate training is administered.
Develop staff and provide effective performance management. Actively promote the facilities team through training of employees to build required individual and team capabilities. Acts as a team leader and motivator in setting standards, recognizing achievement, and understanding of our employees as our greatest resource.
Develop SOPs and procedures to document processes and standards utilized by group. Train staff to assure compliance and to help provide consistent services. Establish MOU's as needed to clarify service levels with customers.
Assist with development of construction design standards, project design reviews and project completion. Assure construction meets long term goals for maintainability and life cycle.
Forecast and maintain the annual operating and capital budgets for the department and company communities, ensuring proper control and appropriate improvement plans are in place.
Coordinate and maintain program specifications, requirements for proposals and contracts as well as associated documents.
Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure University goals are met.
Oversee the department's role in high profile special events surrounding athletics, A&E, Commencement, Welcome Week, New Student Orientation. Participate in planning committees as necessary.
Manage change through training, benchmarking and technology.
Coordinate and plan action during emergency situations which may require internal and external sources.
Additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, landscape architecture, construction, or a related field of study to this position.
Seven (7) year experience successfully managing change and the growth of a large facilities organization and developing the necessary facilities teams to support the change and growth. Experience also includes effective management of human resources, facility and grounds operations, fiscal conscientiousness, and sustainable work practices.
Demonstrated ability to constantly seek to upgrade technical and managerial expertise.

Demonstrated ability to forecast, manage, and adhere to costs and budgets.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Demonstrated quality verbal and written skills.
Ability to interact collaboratively with other University department heads
Ability to read and interpret highly technical documents and reports
Knowledge of all applicable local, state, and federal codes
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, other departments and external agencies.
Availability to work extended hours, as required, in the event of emergency activities
Ability to travel for training and seminars
Demonstrated ability to write and present professional reports.
Valid Driver's License
