Reporting to the Artistic and Managing Director of the Music Performance Program (Managing Director), the Manager, Production and Operations (Manager), cultivates and facilitates the ongoing operations, continual expansion, and future initiatives for the Department of Musicâ™s Performance Program (PP) in conjunction with the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Department, and supports the operations of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Composition (CCCC). Â The Manager works to integrate the PP with the wider University community and surrounding Hyde Park and south side neighborhoods; works closely with the Director, the PP/departmental staff and faculty committees, and other University entities and personnel to achieve these stated goals; and provides organizational, production, and operations support for the CCCC.
The following responsibilities represent oversight of the planning and operations for performances and other events for the PP programs, CCCC, DMR, and other Ensembles-in-Residence, as well as for departmental / local artists and other performing entities sponsored by the Department.
1) Oversee the Performance calendar, avoiding overlap of Music Department events as well as those of major arts units and special events on campus.
2) Ensure that technical and logistical requirements are met, e.g., date, time, venue, etc.
3) Provide advance support to artists to fulfill riders and production-related needs including travel arrangements.
4) Ensure that CCCC rehearsal needs are met, e.g., rehearsal schedules, music procurement and distribution, instruments, venue set up, catering, etc.
5) Serve as primary house manager and staff supervisor for major PP and CCCC events as needed.
6) Contribute to the planning of the overall schedule and particular events for the Don Michael Randel Ensemble-in-Residence, sponsored annually by the Department of Music.
7) Develop and articulate concepts in conjunction with the Directors; generate and facilitate performances and related events; facilitate intersections between PP ensembles and faculty research, and encourage coordination with academic course offerings; promote the PP.
8) In conjunction with departmental administrative procedures, generate contracts or letters of agreements for artists; ensure that tax documents and other paperwork are collected and compliant; process all payments within budget allocations while monitoring expenditures at all times. Â
9) In conjunction with the Director, facilitate intersections between PP ensembles and faculty research, and encourage coordination with current academic offerings; promote the PP within the University and the Hyde Park Community.
10) Assist as needed with ongoing PP projects, including the annual Music Lessons Award program, biennial Concerto Competition, scheduling Master Classes, Workshops, and other special events for the PP.
11) Generate and facilitate outreach programs and events to schools, community centers, retirement homes, and other venues as identified; seek to involve students, performance faculty, and visiting artists in meaningful outreach efforts.
12) Help to develop future projects (such as joint performances, master classes, workshops, etc.) in collaboration with the Departmentâ™s University of Chicago Presents (UCP) and other arts entities on campus (e.g., Logan Center, Smart Museum, International House, Renaissance Society, etc.)
13) Assist with targeted fundraising efforts for the University Symphony Orchestra Endowment, Departmental Artist-in-Residence positions, and the CCCC as needed.
14) Work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred QualificationsÂ EducationÂ
1) Bachelorâ™s degree, preferably in a related field. 2)Â Masterâ™s degree in Music.
1)Â Substantial musical background, in both academic and performance arenas. 2)Â Minimum of 5 years experience working for a not-for-profit musical organization or within a college or university department or school of music. 3) Experience directly supervising and/or producing musical events. 4) Experience supervising staff members and volunteers. 5) Experience working with finances: Â tracking budgets, processing payments, and issuing contracts. Â
Technical Knowledge or SkillsÂ 1) Knowledge of production, communication, dissemination of information and other aspects to create successful events and collaboration. 2)Â Proficiency in database management. Â 3) Knowledge of basic accounting procedures. 4)Â Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
