The Professional Writing Tutor for the Academic Resource Center will provide academic tutorial support to bachelors and graduate psychology students with all aspects of the writing process while mentoring them to become independent learners. In addition, the professional writing tutor will assist the ARC Coordinator with presenting workshops on writing-related topics and will work with mentoring student tutors. The key component of this position is to offer support for students needing help with writing and editing. Responsibilities will include one-on-one appointments with students to provide editing assistance. This position reports directly to the Coordinator of the Academic Resource Center.
Provide face-to-face and online editorial review and support for students who need writing assistance;
Create and present academic workshops for students;
Mentor graduate student tutors;
Attend training and other required meetings;
Perform other duties as assigned.
A Master's in writing or research related skills and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in academic support, preferably with graduate students;
Peer tutoring, mentoring, or teaching experience;
Experience reading and writing psychological research;
Well versed in APA style and professional editing;
Experience working with English Language Learners;
Experience working with underprepared students from diverse backgrounds;
Excellent written and oral communications skills are required;
Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student support such as Zoom and Office 365 Suite;
Ability to work independently and maintain an on-time commitment ;
Strong, positive interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively;
Ability to work occasional non-standard hours (evenings and weekends);
Familiarity with statistics would be a plus.
