The Princeton Gerrymandering Project is a small team dedicated to improving democracy by combining legal expertise and mathematics with data analysis and technology. We’re looking for an experienced full-stack engineer to join our team as a Senior Developer/Product Manager to help us build tools to fight gerrymandering. The person in this role will be an engineer that leads development of our tools and websites.You’ll work closely with our data and policy experts as we build OpenPrecincts, a repository of precinct-level geographies linked with census and voting information, as well as other tools.
This is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal based on continued funding and performance
Continue improving existing web framework in order to provide the most useful redistricting data tool as possible in 2021, including a complete and verified dataset.
Collaborate with external partners* in order to identify features that may be required by end users
*Redistricting reform is a rapidly growing sphere. So far we are in touch with the Metric Geometry and Gerrymandering Group, Dave’s Redistricting, PlanScore, ESRI, DistrictBuilder, the Brennan Center for Justice, and numerous local and state organizations.
Create new web and software tools as needs arise, and contribute to the development of Representable.org, a PGP student collaboration.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field plus 4-6 yrs experience.
Experience contributing to, maintaining, and leading, collaborative, data-intensive projects with volunteer communities on GitHub.
Proficiency in python, Django, and postgis
First hand product development database management experience
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, both in person and remotely
Experience working with and developing APIs
