Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Director, International Student Services for the oﬃce of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director for International Student Services at the Rutgers Global ISSS oﬃce, He/she supports ISSS's role in regulatory compliance on behalf of the University and provides individual and group advisement for undergraduate and graduate international students.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to manage international student's information in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)
Manages the day to day processes of all aspects of international student services, including but not limited to scheduling advising services; preparing electronic communication regarding SEVIS updates and compliance issues; planning and implementing workshops and activities for students; updating the ISSS website with relevant information; etc.
Advises university graduate and undergraduate students on matters pertaining to their immigration status, personal concerns, ﬁnancial diﬃculties, and employment options.
Co-coordinates the International Student Orientation program, in consultation with the Associate Director and in partnership with other ISSS staff, including the preparation of pre-arrival information.
Supervises international student advisers, and related support staff and student workers.
Supports Associate Director in enhancing ISSS's student services and in engaging and educating the Rutgers community about the ISSS student services and to keep them abreast of current immigration regulations affecting international students.
Supports the overall mission and new initiatives at ISSS.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, humanities, or other field related to the position's responsibilities and/or to international education.
A minimum of 5 years professional-level experience in international student and scholar advising or related role/environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current knowledge of SEVIS functionality, reporting requirements and batch.
Demonstrated commitment to the goals and values of international education.
Administrative experience working in higher education and/or an office involved in international programs.
Broad knowledge of higher education internationalization.
Ability to work with faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, university administrators and the general public.
Ability to speak and communicate effectively with diverse groups and constituencies.
Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse community.
Ability to multitask and work under pressure and deadlines.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
U.S. permanent resident or citizen status as required to become a DSO/ARO
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, International Education, or related fields.
Knowledge of one or more languages other than English preferred, as well as experience working, living, and/or studying abroad strongly preferred.
1-2 years supervisory experience.
Knowledge and expertise in the use of social media and database management tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Some nights and weekends.
Must have reliable access to transportation and a valid New Jersey driver's license.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
U.S. permanent resident or citizen status as required to become a DSO/ARO.
