Job Title Library Technical Services Assistant (#S03165) Job Description Summary Montgomery College (MC), Office of Library Services located in Rockville, MD, has need for a full-time Library Technical Services Assistant, position #S03165. The position is a Grade 21, non-exempt level, bargaining position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work secondary jobs at the College. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
Under supervision and/or direction, incumbents in this job class assist with the collegewide acquisition, receipt, bibliographic control, registration of online access, and delivery of materials to facilitate use of, and access to, the library's electronic collections. Incumbents create and maintain bibliographic holdings, financial (purchase orders, invoices, monitoring fund balances), technical, and online configuration data in the library's integrated library system (ILS), electronic resource vendor platforms, electronic resource management system, and related knowledge bases.
Contacts generally are with vendors, students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Job Description
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Processes and maintains orders for the library's collections via the library's and electronic resource vendors, including review and maintenance of embedded order data, electronic invoice data, and bibliographic data from multiple vendors.
Monitors ledger fund balances in the ILS to ensure encumbrances are up to date.
Conducts complex searches and contacts various vendors to source hard to acquire materials.
Reviews bibliographic MARC records, checks URLs and configures access,reviews/creates purchase orders, and reviews/creates invoices based on correct ledger fund balances for electronic orders.
Assists Resource Description and Acquisitions Supervisor with resource description and bibliographic control, including identifying appropriate MARC records, knowledgebase collections, editing and reformatting bibliographic and holdings data to conform to the Anglo-American cataloging rules (AACR2), to facilitate access, and support local procedures.
Assists the Collection Development Librarian and E-Resource Management & Discovery Services Librarian, in support of college-wide selection programs.
Works with vendors to triage non-receipt or damage to materials and delayed or interrupted access to electronic resources.
Assists students, faculty, administrators, and staff with collection access issues, works with vendors, OIT, and others in the unit to resolve these issues, and communicates effectively to all stakeholders on resolution.
Generates productivity and usage reports for collections via the integrated library system, SQL database, and vendor platforms.
Provides direction to student aides.
Associate's degree in accounting, business, computer science, or related field.
Minimum of two years of experience, working in a library, preferably in an education environment, that provides an understanding of the field.
Effective skill in effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications.
Effective analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural, team environment.
Knowledge of library operations, including acquisitions and cataloging processes.
Knowledge of integrated library systems, e-holdings knowledge bases, and discovery
Knowledge of AACR2, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Knowledge of OCLC Connexion. Knowledge of MARC standards.
