Job Description Summary
The IT Director for Classroom and Event Support will lead Whartonâ™s Classroom Support group during daily operations, develop long term planning and strategy, and manage the support for Wharton classes and special events. Whartonâ™s educational technology environment consists of over 100 technology-enabled learning spaces, 50+ group study rooms, and 30+ conference rooms.
The IT Director for Classroom and Event Support and their support team will provide direct and supporting assistance to over 20,000 academic events and 15,000 special events annually across the Wharton complex. Additionally, the classroom support team provides training for faculty, staff, and students on installed AV equipment. The IT Director manages a staff of 5 full-time employees and 3rd party resources contracted for large engagements and extra capacity.
The IT Director for Classroom and Event Support works with other IT colleagues, as well as the Office of the Dean, Office of the President, and individual program offices to design and execute unique high-profile events, such as board meetings, graduations, and critical alumni events. The IT Director also works with peers in classroom design, video production, and technology support to provide highly available services, as well as the road map for future improvements to both products and workflows.
The IT Director will set and manage a team schedule to support events that typically run on Whartonâ™s campus from 7am â“ 7pm Monday through Saturday.
The preferred candidate for this position will have a Bachelorâ™s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of experience managing IT Support teams. They will be able to demonstrate successes providing the highest possible quality of end-user support and service, preferably in higher education.Â An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers is required.
They must possess the ability to address, prioritize, and resolve customer services requests with a professional, outcome-focused approach and attitude to maximize client satisfaction.Â S/he must demonstrate an ability to exercise good judgement, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy in all interactions. Effective communications skills, excellent interpersonal skills, decisive problem solving and decision making, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, a track record of forming and managing relationships, and the aptitude to manage a complex workload are all required. Regular interaction with internal and external persons of significant importance and influence is required.
The selected candidate for this position must have demonstrated experience aligning technology to meet projects goals, requirements, and organizational priorities. A proven history of managing complex technology infrastructure related to client technologies, enterprise technologies, classroom technologies, and/or Audio/Visual tech is required.Â A solid understanding of the latest trends in Educational Technology is strongly desired. ITIL certification strongly desired.
The incumbent for this position is required to be on call, carry a school-provided cell phone, and occasionally be available for emergency and non-normal business hour support requests. This team may be asked to support events in New York, San Francisco, Beijing, and other locations around the world.Â Domestic and International travel may occasionally be required. This team regularly supports events on Whartonâ™s Campus from 7am â“ 7pm Monday through Saturday.
