Under the supervision of the VP of Academic Affairs, the Program Head Nursing Director will be responsible for overall leadership, development, direction, and administration of all aspects of the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs, for ensuring that the programs are in compliance with all laws and regulations of the Board of Registered Nursing, and for coordinating the nursing curriculum with other degree program requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Supervise the overall operation and provide day-to-day coordination of the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs; •Teach one nursing or nursing related class per semester or a total of two classes each contract year as needed; •Responsible for recruitment and employment of full- and part-time nursing faculty and staff; •Prepare and monitor teaching assignments for nursing faculty to meet the academic requirements of the nursing program according to the requirements of the Virginia Community College System for full-time faculty; •Supervise the teaching faculty and staff (full- and part-time) assigned to the nursing department; •Conduct annual evaluations of the teaching faculty according to the Faculty Evaluation Plan; •Arrange for clinical training sites for the nursing program; •Provide evaluations of clinical performance of nursing faculty; •Enforce student compliance with written policies governing nursing practice in all clinical facilities; •Manage the student admission process for the nursing program; •Oversee academic progression and graduation of students; •Prepare all reports necessary for the operation of the nursing program; •Ensure all requirements of the National League of Nursing and the Virginia Board of Nursing are followed on an on-going basis and all reporting is filed in a timely manner; •Maintain an inventory of equipment and/or special supplies necessary for the assigned programs(s); •Serve as a liaison with community and secondary education level in matters that relate to the nursing program; •Recommend individuals to the Vice President of Academic Affairs to serve on the Nursing Curriculum Advisory Committee and supervise the functioning of that committee; •Assist with marketing and recruiting activities for the nursing program; •Supervise the development and sponsoring of related student organizations; •Review respective sections of the DSLCC College Catalog and Student Handbook annually and advise the Academic Vice President of needed revisions or corrections; •Oversee academic advising needs for respective program students; •Prepare budgets for the ADN and PN nursing programs; •Coordinate credit by exam for nursing courses; •Prepare appropriate grants and, if funded, supervise the implementation and evaluation of grant activities; •Assist in organizing, supervising, and evaluating the effectiveness of the ADN and PN nursing programs; •Assist in the investigation and developments of new allied health programs; •Coordinate, development, advancement, review, and updating of the ADN and PN nursing programs; •Complete on-going requirements to maintain all academic and professional credentials (licenses, etc.); •Attend all program-related meetings, conferences, etc. (VCCS, NLN, etc.) to maintain current knowledge of program requirements and industry trends and best practices; •Perform other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs; •Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
Master's Degree with concentration in Nursing from an accredited college/university. Current, unrestricted license to practice nursing as a registered nurse in the state of Virginia. Minimum of 2 years of full-time employment in clinical nursing practice as a Registered Nurse.
