Job description: The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) is seeking a Systems Administrator to join its Computing Resources Group to provide operational support of servers used in scientific computation by research faculty and staff. The CMRR is home to some of the most advanced MR instrumentation in the world, complemented by human resources that provide unique expertise in imaging physics, engineering, and signal processing. Design, development, performance, maintenance of compute servers, operating systems, and related applications to ensure system integrity and achieve optimal performance.
Provide advanced operational support to troubleshoot, track and resolve system issues.
Conducts storage planning and administration.
Develops recovery procedures, scheduling and backups.
Conducts disaster analysis, planning and implementation
Maintain standard operating procedures for tasks in areas of responsibility
Keep current with University of Minnesota policies and guidelines
Maintain hardware and software inventory including software licensing.
Recommend hardware replacement and plan new hardware implementation
Provide primary support for user account maintenance
Serve as secondary support for network security and web server applications
Handle Tier 2 service requests for Linux server user questions
Work with faculty / staff to recommend equipment and technology
Coordinate with Desktop Support staff and UMN Central IT to resolve problems
Provide systems programming automation support
Other duties as assigned by team leads or manager

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant work experience or an unrelated Bachelor’s and four years of work experience in the areas of database design and administration.
Minimum of two years of Linux system administration experience, including working knowledge in setup, maintenance, and security of systems.
Minimum of one year of automation experience using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Perl, or similar.
Experience working both independently and collaboratively in teams.
Minimum of three years of Linux system administration experience, including working knowledge in setup, maintenance, and security of systems.
Experience with, or knowledge of, several of the following:
Common configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
Networking concepts, protocols, and services such as NFS, Samba
Network security and firewalls
MySQL/MariaDB database administration
Ability to work with and build consensus with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Redhat/Centos system administration experience.
Interest in learning and applying new technologies.
