Professor of Clinical Management and Organization (Open Rank) and Director of the Master of Management in Library and Information Science Program
The Department of Management and Organization in the Marshall School of Business, in partnership with the USC Libraries, seeks an outstanding full-time faculty member to direct the Master of Management in Library and Information Science (MMLIS) degree program. The director will lead USC MMLIS faculty in collaborative efforts to transform education in library and information science through deep integration of leadership training throughout the curriculum. This position requires firm grounding and experience in library and information science, management, and program administration. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective leadership skills, dedication to student learning and an excellent student experience, and a commitment to inclusivity and equitable access to education.
The Master of Management in Library and Information Science
The online USC MMLIS program is uniquely designed to prepare library professionals with the leadership skills necessary to manage libraries and information centers in colleges and universities, urban environments, businesses, not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, and the digital world. With its position in the top-20-ranked USC Marshall School of Business, the MMLIS program delivers rigorous education in management and business fundamentals in addition to the foundations of libraries and librarianship. MMLIS faculty approach courses through experiential and project-based teaching and learning, with an emphasis on critical and creative thinking and the development of skills that are immediately applicable in leading many types of information organizations.

Working with the deans of the Marshall School of Business and USC Libraries, their designates, and the faculty and staff of both units, the successful candidate will:
Provide intellectual and administrative leadership for the MMLIS;
Provide leadership for program-level curriculum development, review, and implementation, with a focus on academic excellence and the student experience;
Design and assess courses for the MMLIS degree and certificate programs;
Teach in the online learning environment as required;
Assess student learning outcomes, program learning objectives, and relevance of the curriculum to the field of library leadership;
Manage and ensure compliance with accreditation standards and procedures of the American Library Association Committee on Accreditation;
Manage other accreditation activities as necessary;
Collaborate with the learning management system provider to ensure effective course delivery and application of pedagogical principles in the digital environment;
Collaborate with the online learning management system provider to promote the program, recruit students, and deliver excellent student-support services;
Liaise with internal and external constituencies and stakeholders to raise the profile of the program, create internship and other opportunities for students, and remain engaged with relevant leaders within and beyond academia;
Manage one full-time student-support staff member and student staff as necessary;
And other duties as assigned.
USC encourages all MMLIS faculty to make scholarly contributions that advance the field and contribute to pedagogical, instructional, and leadership innovation.
This is a full-time, calendar year appointment. Instructional design and media technology assistance will be provided to ensure proficiency in using the program's interactive learning management system. The successful faculty member will teach for the program each semester and remain actively involved with the MMLIS community of teaching practice.

A doctoral degree in Library and Information Science, or international equivalent; or a combination of a terminal library professional degree and relevant management experience.
Two years in senior leadership positions in an academic environment
Experience managing an academic program or programs
Experience developing and teaching academic courses in management and library and information science at the graduate level
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and access
A doctoral degree in Library and Information science and an additional advanced degree in a relevant academic discipline or area of professional practice.
Preferred Additional Experience
Management experience in a business or not-for-profit environment
Experience with pedagogical methods and instructional design, particularly in an online environment
Experience designing and assessing student learning outcomes and mapping competencies to the needs of the field
Experience in managing advising, career counseling, and other student-support functions of an academic program
Faculty Appointment Rank and Salary
Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. If mutually desirable, a joint, senior appointment is possible with the Marshall School and USC Libraries. Librarians at USC have faculty status.
