The Departments of Preventive Medicine and Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar/Research Associate position in environmental neurosciences.Â The selected candidates are expected to participate in research and training activities including study design, project management, data analyses, dissemination of scientific results, research planning and development of grant proposals for biologically-based, population-level studies investigating environmental contributions to neurodevelopment and brain aging.Â Drawing on the unique strengths of the Departments of Preventive Medicine (PM) and Neurology, the innovative research program in Environmental Neurosciences involves an interdisciplinary team of established investigators and their collaborators in neurosciences, psychology, gerontology, spatial statistics, social sciences and environmental engineering.Â The PM Department has a leading research group in epidemiology and biostatistics, with active and well-funded programs in chronic disease epidemiology, environmental health, cancer epidemiology and methodological research focused on environmental and genetic epidemiology.Â The Department of Neurology houses the NIA-funded Alzheimerâs Disease Research Center (ADRC) and supports cutting-edge research led by world-class scientists with expertise in multimodal neuroimaging, cognitive neuropsychology and clinical neurology.Â Investigators at the NIH-funded ADRC focus their collective efforts to better characterize cognitive changes and understand the biological underpinnings as related to aging, Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular disease. The PM Department also includes the Southern California Environmental Health Sciences Center (SCEHSC), which offers opportunities for a wide range of research collaborations with investigators from southern California and beyond.Â The NIEHS-funded SCEHSC features a long-standing Career Development Program with a track record of success in helping early-stage investigators obtain their first NIH awards and advance their professional career.
Applicants with a doctoral degree, or near completion, in epidemiology (neuroepidemiology; mental health; developmental/pediatric; social/environmental; etc.), biostatistics, environmental health sciences, or other related scientific fields (e.g., quantitative psychology; gerontology; neurosciences; human ecology) and interested in pursuing substantive research at the junction of environmental epidemiology and neurosciences of brain development and aging are all welcome to apply.Â Strong quantitative backgrounds with prior experience with analyzing multi-dimensional (e.g., neuroimaging), longitudinal data (e.g., mixed models; structural equation models; path analyses) are desirable.Â
