The Education Abroad Coordinator is responsible for managing a portfolio faculty-led programs study away/study abroad, exchange, and affiliate programs (coordinating and maintaining protocols, policies, information, and procedures; liaise with 3rd party providers), development and management of budgets; coordinate new program development, and pre-departure orientation for students; international risk management; and help with the expansion of the number and diversity of students participating in study abroad opportunities through campus outreach, and training. Co-develop and/or revise strategies, policies and procedures in international education to achieve evolving goals and mission of the campus unit and institution. Provide expert guidance in advising students on education abroad opportunities, program selection, academics, finances, visa requirements, health and safety policies and administration. Develop and maintain accurate records and reporting requirements, adhering to state and institutional guidelines. Work with international exchange partner institutions to obtain information regarding application processes, course selections, arrival and accommodation information, financial expectations, and other relevant information to assist students interested in those programs. Work with faculty, program providers, and other campus units; develop program itineraries, budgets, and student cost sheets. Develop and deliver Pre-Departure Orientation, Study Abroad Fair(s) and reentry programming. Assist with program assessments. Serve as first point of contact for study abroad program providers, and assist with arrangements for campus visits promoting providers' programs through open information sessions, information tables, and contacts within specific academic disciplines. Assist unit leadership with special projects and oversight of student staff. Represent the unit as needed. Participate in university-wide opportunities to market study abroad, including Open Houses, Quest summer orientation of new students, Highlander Days, athletic events, and other venues. Coordinate and track exchange programs to ensure balance in inbound and outbound students; generate reports related to student mobility. Other duties as assigned.
Excellent written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse group of constituents including students, faculty, staff of supporting campus units, international visitors, third party providers and parents. Excellent organization skills. Strong fiscal/bookkeeping experience. Knowledge of advanced bookkeeping/accounting principles and practices. Working knowledge of modern office equipment, troubleshooting, practices, and procedures including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) . Excellent customer service skills. Maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, competing priorities and provide excellent outcomes within the required time frame. Experience in public speaking and/or training. Strong interpersonal skills, independent thinking and ability to see the big picture of international education while also paying attention to details.
Experience working in a study abroad office or advising students in an international education office or related experience. Experience with faculty-led study abroad program management. Experience with campus units engaged in the education abroad and demonstrated knowledge of various computer systems, social media, and electronic management systems. Experience working in a high-traffic, high-demand environment. Significant experience with database or spreadsheet programs. Experience studying abroad. Fluency in a language other than English. Participation and leadership in professional organizations in the field of education abroad. Knowledge of Education Abroad methods, best practices, and national trends.
