Director of Development,Office of Advancement - Georgetown University Law Center
The Advancement Office of the Law Center is charged with raising funds to advance the institution's mission and achieve goals set forth by the Executive Vice President of the Law Center/Dean of the Law School and the Assistant Dean of Development & Alumni Affairs. Major fund raising objectives of the law Center and the University include increasing the percentage of law alumni who make charitable gifts to the institution, increasing the average dollar amount per gift to the Law Center , and increasing the total dollars raised.
As a member of t he law Developm e n t staff, the Director of Development is charged with identifying , cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts to the Law Center in the $250,000 to $10,000,000 range in support of these objectives. This position requires travel and significant fundraising experience with annual gift closures of $3,000,000 or more . Duties include, but are not limited to:
Major Gift Research, Identifications, Cultivation and Solicitation
The Director will identify potential major gift prospects in assigned geographic areas.
The Director will develop a strategy for a minimum number of visits with prospects each year at various stages of the fundraising continuum* discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
When required, the Director will facilitate visits for the Dean, the Assistant Dean of Development & Alumni Affairs, the Executive Director of Director of Development, and/or other faculty or external relations team members.
The Director will be expected to provide counsel to Executive Director of Development and other members of the development and alumni relations staff regarding strategies for prospect targeting and solicitation.
Management of Assistant Directors of Development
Effectively supervise all direct reports and help create a "team " mentality within the Law Advancement Office to encourage cooperation and respect, and develop and retain the department's best talent.
Oversee the work of direct reports, meet regularly with direct reports to ensure the annual fundraising metrics of assistant directors are met, go on visits with assistant and associate directors as appropriate.
Complete regular evaluations for all direct reports in a timely manner as directed by University procedures.
Encourage assistant directors to participate in opportunities for professional development trainings.
Follow up and Stewardship
Complete the appropriate follow up from visits in a timely manner, including: action/call reports (using GU360- a Salesforce/Affinaquest CRM); thank you letters; proposal preparation; and responses to special requests by those visited.
University and Law Center Representative
Partner with the Georgetown University Office of Gift Planning when appropriate.
Serve as a liaison between the Law Center and the University and alumni by attending University events as requested by the Executive Director.
Help cultivate alumni by serving as a point of contact and reference for offices such as, but not limited to: the Office of Career Services; the Continuing Legal Education Office; the Alumni Office; the Communications Office, the Associate Dean's Office and the Dean's Office.
Represent the Law fund raising staff at University meetings, conferences and seminars as deemed appropriate
Seven to nine years of major gift and planned giving fund raising experience,with demonstrated success in personal solicitations of $1,000,000 or more.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both with alumni, friends and parents of Georgetown University Law Center; as well as the administration, faculty, and staff of the Law Center.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong computer skills including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in higher education development and gift planning.
