The Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks to hire a full time assistant professor and/or add up to 6 people to its pool of temporary instructors and/or assistant professors to teach in the undergraduate and/or graduate programs on a part-time basis for the 2020-2021 academic year, August 24, 2020 - May 7, 2021. Term contract(s) only. Appointments may include online classes, hybrid courses with periodic weekend syncronis classes, and/or traditional face-to-face classes. Note: Being a member of the pool does not ensure a contract will be offered; course offerings, and therefore teaching appointments, vary with demand and available funding.
Candidates are encouraged to apply whose specialization includes federal Indian law, tribal administration and governance, business administration, history and/or Anishinaabe studies. Courses will be filled on an add as needed basis. Possible courses include, but are not limited, to Business Processes in Tribal Administration (AMIN 4810), Federal Indian I (MTAG 5530), Tribal Natural Resource Program Management I (TRES 5101), Tribal Natural Resource Program Management II (TRES 5102), Foundations of Leadership and Ethics (MTAG 5310), and Applied Leadership and Ethics (MTAG 5320).
Masters degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant field for undergraduate course; a terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant field for master courses
One year of relevant teaching experience at the college level (graduate TA experience acceptable) or three years of professional experience in a relevant field
Effective oral and written communication skills appropriate to the position
Proficiency, or the willingness to become proficient, in utilizing instructional technologies (i.e. canvas).
Terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant field
Three or more years of relevant college-level teaching experience or five years of professional experience in a relevant field
Experience teaching upper division and graduate courses courses such as those offered by the Department
Expertise in using technology for teaching
