Essential Job Duties:
The Lab Manager will help to contribute to research projects on developing an online learning environment to study how students learn with adaptive learning technologies. We will conduct pilot studies in a lab and evaluation studies in real classroom settings to measure the effectiveness of a proposed online learning environment as well as to develop theories on how students learn.
The lab manager's primary duty is to help us conduct those research studies. The lab manager will also manage lab research activities including scheduling, room reservations, travel arrangements, purchasing, inventory management, etc.
The Lab Manager will be engaged in the following job duties:
Managing lab activities (20%)
Running studies both in lab and in local schools (40%)
Documentations and paper works including IRB (20%)
Analyze data collected from the lab and school studies (20%)
Additional responsibilities include: recruiting study participants, preparing for lab and school studies, contacting with school teachers, filing IRB and other project related forms, collecting data from pilot and school studies, analyzing data using qualitative and quantitative methods, participating to the project related meetings, writing project related documents and manuscripts.
Pilot studies (that are also ran by the lab manager) might need to be scheduled beyond normal office hours (i.e., after 5pm and over weekend) depending on the availability of participants (who are usually K-16 students).
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Experience in an education research and data analysis
Knowledge and experience in K-12 STEM education, the learning science, and qualitative & quantitative research methods
Statistical analysis using R, SAS, SPSS, or equivalent software
General computer literacy, including ability to use a variety of software packages to manipulate data (e.g., Excel, RapidMiner)
Ability to collect and record data; ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
Ability to understand and follow directions
Must be able to work closely with others
At least one year of data analytics in a research lab.
At least one semester of independent research in a related field.
