Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
We have an opening in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota Medical School for a full-time study coordinator (Research Professional 2) to work as part of a team investigating how advanced technologies can be used to keep older adults healthy and living in their home as they age (AGING-WELL), using in-home sensor systems. This person will support the management of the research protocol under the general direction and oversight of the PI. This position will act as the team lead and will work independently and within the team on recruitment and retention of participants, study visit scheduling, tracking, and logistical support, phone screening and medical chart review, informed consent process, regulatory management, communication with IRB, administration and scoring of neuropsychological assessments and questionnaires, coordination and completion of elements of the study protocol, cross-training and delegation of tasks to other team members, development and maintenance of REDCap project database.
Recruit research participants, determine eligibility, obtain informed consent, facilitate study enrollment, employ retention methods of creating a monthly study newsletter as well as hosting monthly events for participants, and track retention (40%)
Maintain regulatory compliance; communicate with IRB and external research sponsor representatives (10%)
Independently coordinate, complete, and assure quality of all protocol elements (5%)
Assist with publications, abstracts, professional presentations (10%)
Help PI with Lab tasks, such as coordinating lab meetings, hiring staff, and grant applications (5%)
Consent participants, administer diagnostic structured interviews of cognitive status, battery of neuropsychological and clinic based functional tasks/questionnaires (20%)
Cross-training and delegating tasks to other research staff (5%)
Development and maintenance of project database using REDCap (5%)
Adriana Seelye, PhD is the lab Principal Investigator, and a faculty of the Minneapolis VA Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) and Department of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. AGING-WELL is being conducted within the Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The study is supported by a R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This position will be funded for 4 years.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
BA/BS in a science or health related field plus 2 years of work experience as a study coordinator; or a combination of related education and work experience in study coordination, recruitment and retention of participants, and project management totaling 6 years or more.
Courses in research methods, psychology, helping professions, or allied health field.
Working knowledge of scientific method, human subjects research, and research regulations.
Ability to interact patiently and respectfully with elderly research participants.
Ability to prioritize work demands and manage time appropriately.
Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
Research experience in a VA setting.
Experience working with one or more of the following populations; older adults, military veterans, Somali/East African, Hmong/Southeast Asian, Indian or Hispanic individuals, is preferred.
Experience with mentoring, training, or as a team lead.
Experience with project management.
IRB interaction and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Strong computer skills (in Microsoft OS and productivity software).
Critical thinking skills and the ability to learn and integrate new information quickly.
Ability to speak and communicate clearly.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
