The successful candidate will Direct the University Jazz Ensemble. In addition, the successful candidate will teach courses in Music from the following: History of Jazz, History of Black Music in America, Arranging, and Composition, and Studio Woodwinds (Saxophone preferred)., as well as courses in Music and other related duties based on program/departmental need. The candidate will be responsible for advising students and service to the department, College and University is also expected.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts Music Program is accepting applications for a 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position, with additional responsibility of Jazz Ensemble Director.
The Music Program offers two degree programs, The B.A. in Music Education, and the B.A. Music, with two concentrations, Performance, and General. Students graduating with the BA degree in Music Education will be licensed by the state of North Carolina to teach music in K-12.
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 130 faculty members.

Applicants must have earned a Master's Degree in Music. The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of success as a studio teacher and performer. The successful candidate must show evidence of prior experience in directing/coaching Jazz ensembles.
In addition to the academic degree requirement of a Master’s degree, Supervisor also prefers candidates have at least 5 years of teaching experience in higher education. Also, experience in Jazz Ensemble direction and live performance is preferable.
