Montclair State University seeks an experienced and dynamic individual as the institutionâ™s first Vice President for Enrollment Management.Â Over recent years, Montclair State University has undergone a very significant transformation, growing from a masterâ™s level college to a doctoral research university, increasing student enrollment from 12,000 to over 21,000, creating new colleges and schools, developing many new academic programs, recruiting new faculty, and building many new academic and campus life facilities.Â Over the past year, the University has undertaken a review of the organization of enrollment management in the much larger and more complex institution that exists today, and seeks an individual with the experience, leadership skills, and preparation to develop the new division.Â Â Â Â
Reporting to the President, as a member of the Universityâ™s senior administrative team, the Vice President for Enrollment Management will hold the leadership role in aligning the Universityâ™s enrollment goals to realize the institutionâ™s mission, to serve the changing societal needs for public higher education, and to support the continued transformational growth and development of the University. The Vice President will provide oversight to the full range of the Universityâ™s enrollment activities through expert analysis of educational trends and demographic data, will focus resources efficiently and creatively on successful recruitment strategies, and will promote the Montclair State University values of providing access to a student population that fully reflects the diversity of the state and the nation and supporting those students to the timely completion of rigorous and meaningful degrees.
The Vice President will work closely and collaboratively with leadership in all of the academic and administrative divisions of the University in ways that bring the collective resources and talents of the University community to bear on the work of creating and implementing enrollment strategies and tactics that achieve the Universityâ™s broad and complex goals.Â The division of Enrollment Management will include: Undergraduate Admissions; Student Financial Aid; the Office of the Registrar; Red Hawk Central, the Universityâ™s centralized access point for integrated student services; Summer and Winter sessions; programs for non-matriculated students; and enrollment management data and technology.Â In addition, through a consultative relationship with the Dean of the Graduate School, the Vice President will support the integration of graduate enrollment strategies into the Universityâ™s comprehensive enrollment plans. Â
Specific responsibilities of the Vice President will include: leading the creation of comprehensive strategic enrollment and recruitment plans, engaging all key constituents across the University; developing coordinated short and long term enrollment goals across all levels of study and for all schools and colleges; establishing a thoughtful vision and strong leadership for the newly created division of Enrollment Management, building a culture of collaboration, data-driven decision making, and accountability; overseeing the development and dissemination of a suite of enrollment management data and reports that is useful to the University community in its enrollment-related efforts; monitoring statewide, national, and international trends that can inform the Universityâ™s understanding of its goals and plans; tracking and implementing best practices in enrollment management and recruitment strategies; exploring and cultivating opportunities for enhanced partnerships that increase and diversify the Universityâ™s enrollment pipelines; and sensitively and constructively bringing strong change management principles to support the work of the professionals in this new division.
The successful candidate will bring extensive knowledge of the constantly-changing landscape of public higher education and national demographic trends and of the competitive nature of the business of enrollment management, and will apply that knowledge to the mission, values and strategic vision of Montclair State University.Â Specific preferred qualifications include: an advanced degree and a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible managerial experience in higher education; a record of substantial accomplishments relevant to the position; demonstrated competence and literacy in current uses of data systems related to enrollment management; experience in managing complex administrative functions, including demonstrated success in managing personnel and budgets; a highly developed understanding of and commitment to the goals and mission of a large and diverse public university; exceptional spoken and written communication skills; and the intelligence, energy and passion required to be a committed participant in the work of building a great university to serve the state and the nation.
