The Central Sterile department fulfills this mission by ensuring the sterilization of instruments used in our clinical care settings.
The Sterile Processing Technician 2 performs preparation of instruments, supplies and equipment requiring decontamination, assembly prep and packaging, and sterilization. This position is part of a team of 20 who work together to ensure a full cycle sterilization function for all of the School of Dentistry. The SPT2 will work in a fast paced environment, with a high degree of detail and accuracy, a certain degree of autonomy and will require time management skills.
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute care center with primary responsibility for instrumentation processing and sterilization
National certification from CBSPD or IAHCSMM is required at time of hire
Basic computer skill (MS office); basic knowledge of data entry/tracking software
Demonstrable knowledge of infection control and best practices
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to work well in a team environment and great communication skills
Attention to detail in a fast paced environment
Demonstrated ability to read, write and understand written and oral instructions in English
Demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance at past and present employers
Incumbent may be exposed to human tissues/fluids
Loud working environment
Sterilization areas may be warm and steamy
Environmental exposures include: blood, body fluids, needle sticks, and cuts
Must be able to lift 30 pounds and be able to bend and reach above shoulders and below knees
Ability to stand/walk for 4 continuous hours a day
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Completion of Sterile Processing Course
Two years job experience with decontamination experience of dental or medical instrumentation
Knowledge and experience using axiUm software
