Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field. One year of experience working in a laboratory at a university, college or experience in a related area. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Performs under supervision, a wide variety of routine and technical tasks including maintaining and operating a laboratory for a research project or grant.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Interprets and applies routine but moderately complex directives requiring limited judgment, ordinary attention, and care to tasks such as, but not necessarily limited to, supervising student personnel, scheduling, establishing procedures, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, equipment maintenance and repair, sanitation, security, and compliance with university and governments procedures, standards, rules and regulations. Transports, processes, analyzes, and archives human samples. Prepares analysis involving the processing of tissues, fluids and solvents from human, non-human, and inorganic origin. Performs molecular analysis of gene and protein expression levels using Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and immunoblotting techniques (Western blotting). Performs molecular analysis in fluids and cells using plate readers and confocal microscopy. Prepares cell cultures of eukaryotic and bacterial origin under a biological safety hood. Independently designs and implements research techniques and contributes to the training and supervising of students and lower technical laboratory positions. Consults with the Principal Investigator regarding laboratory procedures and evaluation of collected data. Prepares data for dissemination (presentation, articles). Performs other related duties as assigned.
