Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Student Accounts, the Student Accounts Advisor will work in collaboration with the Associate Director, Student Communication, Academic Services, Veteran Services and University College in the development and implementation of newsletters, presentations and information engagements that interact directly with students.
The Student Accounts Advisor is responsible for assisting students in understanding and meeting their financial obligations by developing and participating in a range of functions.Â This includes but not limited to, participating in orientations, scheduling payment sessions, working with our Military population, visiting new student experience classes, and meeting with students individually. Including continuous interaction with other offices to ensure the highest level of student satisfaction regarding any questions or concerns regarding studentsâ™ accounts.
The incumbent must be able to communicate financial information in a professional and courteous manner, and to help students and parents to understand their financial accountability to the University. This position involves interaction with state, federal and non-profit agencies and with the students themselves.
Assist MSUâ™s VA population with specific questions or concerns relating to payment assistance provided by VA agency.
Work with the Financial Aid VA representative to ensure all aid is accurately posted.
Coordinate refunds back to the Federal agency for over awarded or students that withdraw from classes.
Work collaboratively with VA Support Specialist to ensure students tuition bill is sent promptly and accurately to VA paying source.
Ensure all VA documentation is properly acquired; assist with reconciliation when Federal audit is administered.
Knowledge of VA regulations; certifying guidelines, return of funds process and other procedures pertinent to the VA Student population.
Assist VA students when visiting the Office of Student Accounts and or Red Hawk Central, responds to very specific questions concerning payment assistance provided by the VA agency and other financial aid that was awarded; ensure all VA documentation is properly acquired; assist with the reconciliation when the Federal audit is administered
Serving as primary contact for students across campus with student account related questions, communicating with students via email and telephone to ensure timely receipt of scheduled payments.
Provide advice and counsel to general student population about available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements and the application process to students and parents; analyze and evaluate financial aid eligibility for students.
Monitor billing holds on studentsâ™ accounts and collaborating with University College on retention efforts. Advising, suggesting and processing forms that affect studentsâ™ account (e.g., add/drop forms, leave of absence forms, withdrawal forms, etc.).
Help students define and develop realistic educational career plans that they can financially afford through planning for each semester and summer school, if appropriate.
Assist in pre-collection activity sending communication to students with an outstanding balance mid-point each semester to plan for the coming semester (or summer) and to review/revise long-range financial and academic schedules.
Assist in ensuring compliance and consistency with all Federal, State, and University regulations related to student account issues; consult with department staff to provide procedural and interpretation support
Responsible for attending special functions where office representation is required.Â This may include late night(s) and/or weekend hours.
Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
Work overtime as required during peak periods.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of one year of related professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices; including design and implementation of policy and procedures, vendor service contracts and improving and updating management practices.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrates stress tolerance and resilience when responding to challenging inquiries.
Ability to analyze and apply relevant laws, regulations, and procedures, including the handling of confidential matters with discretion and aligned with FERA; good judgment, demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills.
Ability to set work priorities, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proactive teamwork talents effectively interacting with staff, students, parents, and other related parties.
