Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either:
(A) Thirty hours or two semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor; or (B) One year of professional experience working with older adults;
Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and sixty hours or four semester units of coursework or classwork in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This last requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor;
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Demonstrated ability to teach in area of discipline.
Knowledge of current theories and methods that address the varied learning styles and special needs of older adults.
Demonstrated experience in the development of course materials.
Demonstrated commitment to professional growth.
Demonstrated use and integration of technology and other instructional media as related to content delivery.
Experience with community agencies, businesses and senior citizen facilities that service the older adult population.
Demonstrated experience working with students with a focus on the needs of the general population as it ages.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated success in helping students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning disabilities.
