Manage Trace Organic Lab including supervising and conducting sample preparation. Trains and supervises the lab activities of multiple laboratory users. Preparation and analysis of samples using three mass spectrometers. Develop methods for analyzing organic pollutants in both environmental and biological samples. Support complex field programs (e.g., air, water, and biological samplings). Support proposal, manuscript and progress report preparation.
Management and control of the operation of the Trace Organic Lab. Perform sample preparation of sediment, water, filter, urine and blood matrices for analysis of more than 20 organic pollutants. Trains and supervises the lab activities of various lab users (1 technician, 4-6 students, Postdoctoral Research Scientists and Principal Investigators). Provide support to preparation of progress reports, proposals and manuscripts.
Supervise users of three mass spectrometers, including GC/MS/MS and LC/MS/MS.
Provide specialized logistical and technical support to mount complex field programs.
Assists the LDEO Safety Office by conducting periodic inspections of various LDEO laboratories.
General supervision is provided. Staff Associate will exercise independent judgment within set parameters. Supervises activities and trains graduate students and research assistants in the laboratory.
No direct budgetary control. Provide recommendations on specialized purchases. Maintains and is responsible for laboratory assets valued at ~600K.
