The part-time custodian helps keep the building and facilities in clean and orderly condition. Performs heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing refuse. Performs routine light maintenance activities and notifies management of need for repairs.
Cleans building floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet mopping, dust mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming. Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms. Collects recyclables, and gathers and empties trash. Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. Custs walls, machines, and equipment.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. Steam cleans or shampoos carpets. Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes floors. May conduct full range of housekeeping duties. Clears sidewalks, drives, and adjacent areas; shovels snow. Keeps custodial supply closet orderly and stocked with adequate chemicals, equipment, and toiletries.
Locks, unlocks, and secures buildings. Maintains awareness of buildings and facilities, and reports abnormalties or security concerns. Identifies and reports needed building repairs.
Note: Work hours are 5:00 - 10:45 pm, Monday - Friday.
General knowledge at the high school level.
Knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment. Ability to operate and use standard cleaning equipment and materials. Ability to follow safe work practices in biohazard and/or hazardous waste clean-up (blood borne pathogens; toxic, reactive, explosive, and ignitable laboratory wastes; currosive wastes from cleaning operations; other miscellaneous wastes from accross campus). Ability to complete training and testing in hazardous waste management. Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse variety of individuals to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort. Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, with ability to work in a team environment and perform work in a safe and efficient manner.
