The University of Missouri - St. Louis Accounting Services office is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, analytical accountant to join our team.
This position provides a key layer of support to the Accounting Services office and Accounting Business Center and reports to the Director of Finance and Accounting. The individual in this position performs a variety of accounting tasks, such as reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling financial transactions in the general ledger; maintaining the financial accounting system chart of accounts; utilizing reporting tools to prepare financial reports and projections; and monitoring compliance with University and regulatory financial policies.
Performs regular analysis of campus financial data to help ensure general ledger account balances are accurate and comply with applicable accounting policies and regulations
Prepares, reviews, and approves accounting transactions, resolves errors and initiates corrective action
Assists in the maintenance of the university's accounting system, including the accurate and timely creation and modification of fund accounting ChartFields
Understands, monitors compliance, and provides training on University accounting and business policies, procedures, and internal controls
Assists in the preparation of regular and ad hoc financial reports and projections
Develops and promotes working relationships with campus business managers and campus department fiscal staff to support overall campus and university system financial goals and objectives
Interacts with internal and external auditors and assists with audit requests
Provides accounting and auditing assistance for the University Square not-for-profit and for-profit corporate entities
Assists with departmental initiatives and projects as needed; performs other position specific tasks as assigned
Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting or equivalent course work
Seven years of relevant professional work experience in a financial or accounting role
Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
Active CPA license
Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience at an institution of higher education
Working knowledge of fund accounting
Working knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) accounting and reporting standards
Experience with an enterprise wide system, preferably the PeopleSoft general ledger system
Two or more years of supervisory experience
Salary based on qualifications and experience.
