Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Programmer for the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS). This position provides overall responsibility for programming, identifying, developing, implementing, upgrading, and maintaining computer software/hardware systems for research in Cognitive Science at the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS). The Research Programmer serves as a key support for faculty affiliated with the Center in the design, implementation, and analysis of the faculty member's research. The Research Programmer (RP) should have an understanding of relevant programming platforms (e.g., Matlab, MTurk/Psi Turk, EPrime), and a general understanding of research protocols, methodology, design, and analysis.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Designs, develops, conducts, and monitors, statistical procedures and methodologies to facilitate the accomplishment of applicable research objectives.
Provides programming support for different experimental protocols, including audio and visual experiments, as well as web-based, and android applications.
Compiles and summarizes research results, and develop technical reports when relevant. Provide specialized technical support as relevant to the candidate's expertise and faculty needs.
Uses judgment within broadly defined policies and practices.
Develops appropriate statistical models to analyze research data, while managing and maintaining databases.
Creates method trainings and workshops.
Offers trainings to faculty and graduates related to programming or data analysis; Providing expertise in all of the mentioned programming platforms, and is able to adopt and learn new languages and software.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of three years of related systems administration experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with statistical software (R, SPSS, etc.)
Ability to program experiments that are compatible with the Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a plus.
Thorough knowledge and experience with Macintosh and PC based systems are required. Knowledge of video conferencing technology required.
Must have a history of learning increasingly complex programming environments.
Programming of scientific experiments in psychophysics both visual and auditory and programming of real-time scientific experiments in psychophysics
Knowledge and experience with statistical analysis of experimental data, from traditional analysis of variance and regression to multivariate and Bayesian analysis, SAS, and SPSS, among other statistical analysis software
Knowledge of programming experiments that are compatible for advanced fMRI data analysis
Experience with advanced tools in cognitive science (Eg., EEG, eyetracking, fMRI)
General knowledge of fMRI methods, programming, and analysis techniques are not required, but would be welcomed and encouraged.
Knowledge of at least two relevant programming languages, or software packages: For example, Python, Visual Basic, C, C++, Java, Matlab, Pychotoolbox, and Open GL, SPM, FSL, AFNI, R, SAS, SPSS.
