Iowa State University Dining is seeking applications for a Food Services Supervisor at the ISU Dining gelato production facility . This position will direct and perform operational duties for the ISU Dining gelato production facility and will supervise the production of dairy and non-dairy frozen desserts and other food products. The Food Services Supervisor also assists with training, supervising and directing the activities of student employees. This position coordinates and operates business functions for the ISU Dining gelato production facility including high volume production of frozen desserts, preparation of recipes, food ordering, record keeping, sanitation and maintenance.
The duties of this position require the ability to lift/push/pull cases of food and bags of produce weighing up to 50 pounds; stand the entire work time excluding breaks; work cooperatively as a team in a team-oriented environment; train and work cooperatively with student staff; serve students, faculty, staff and university guests in a hospitable, customer-oriented manner during special events; and perform basic math skills in order to complete such tasks as estimating quantities of ingredients needed for recipe preparation, converting imperial to metric measurements and calculating the number of portions prepared. Other duties as assigned. Occasionally, evening hours and/or weekends may be required for special events.
Physical requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds of product, posses manual dexterity, be able to perform tasks on an extended basis without error, and stand for majority of work time.
Working conditions: Work environment may be hot/humid or cold/dry, equipment noise may exist, and floors that employee with stand on are hard.
Hazards: Heavy lifting, hot equipment, and hard floors.
Hours: Monday â Friday 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
Under general supervision, provides supervision for operations and service employees in the distribution of foods.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
â¢ Supervises operations of food distribution, including set-up, service, maintenance, and personnel.
â¢ Plans and prepares work assignments and schedules.
â¢ Interviews and recommends employ of support staff.
â¢ Trains, assigns work to and evaluates the performance of support staff, and recommends salary increases, promotions, and status changes, including dismissals.
â¢ Prepares service and supply requisitions.
â¢ Maintains inventory controls.
â¢ Monitors cash register functions.
â¢ Prepares periodic reports on food distribution activities, including inventory records, personnel records, and fiscal reports on cash register functions.
â¢ Consults with other Food Service Supervisors and Manager to coordinate dining facility operations.
â¢ Maintains sanitation and safety standards.
â¢ Prepares menus and pricing boards and schedules.
â¢ Responds to inquiries and complaints from staff, students, and patrons.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
â¢ Knowledge of methods and practices of institutional food preparation and service.
â¢ Knowledge of principles of food sanitation, health hazards, and the necessary precautionary measures.
â¢ Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
