Maryland Department of Policy, Analysis, and Research (MIPAR)
MIPAR is part of the Center for Social Science Scholarship at UMBC. MIPAR is the principal unit for social science and public policy research at UMBC. MIPAR provides grant administration support to Social Science research faculty.
This project coordinator will assist with grant-funded public health research and implementation projects on maternal health, quality improvement, and implementation science topics. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of UMBC-led activities, and collaborating with other project partners, such as the Maryland Department of Health, Johns Hopkins University, and the Maryland Patient Safety Center. The Coordinator will manage data collection activities, grant expenditure and reporting adherence, meeting scheduling, and interfacing with project partner organizations and research participants. The Coordinator will also contribute to program evaluation design, data collection, data analysis, and the preparation of reports and manuscripts. The Coordinator serves as a point of contact for study participants, research personnel and support staff. The Coordinator conducts complex and varied work and contributes to measurable team objectives. Specific duties include:
Plans program activities, coordinates activities and manages logistics, including ethical review requirements and timelines, and funder reporting requirements and timelines.
Ensures that study activities are completed on time and in accordance with protocols.
Maintains careful documentation of study activities. Attends project meetings and documents meetings with minutes/notes.
Contributes to data collection and management under the direction of project investigators and supervises data collection activities. Extracts data from routine sources, administers study questionnaires with research participants, and trains additional data collection staff.
Maintains, manages, and audits project data: develops file organization systems, manages access permissions, develops and implements version control protocols, develops data sets, identifies and corrects data errors.
Contributes to design of study protocols and instruments under the supervision of project investigators. This includes conducting literature reviews, drafting questionnaires, and contributing to protocols and standard operating procedure documents.
Contributes to data analysis and report writing. Develops data analysis plans. Conducts and/or supervises qualitative and quantitative analysis using standard software packages (e.g., Stata, Atlas.ti). Maintains careful documentation of analysis procedures and decisions.
Contributes to reports to funding agencies, project partners, and peer-reviewed journal articles.
Promptly brings challenges or issues to the attention of study investigators and contributes to collaborative problem solving.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferably in nursing, emergency services, chemistry, biology, public health, psychology or another discipline appropriate to position required.
Possesses a knowledge of research project requirements and able to perform position in compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws.
Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information obtained during treatment in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and state regulations.
Ability to gain knowledge and meet the compliance and reporting needs of the university's policies and practices for Institutional Review, Human Protections, Animal Protections, etc.
Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences.
Assume personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication, customer service skills, and interpersonal skills.
Note: The position is based at the UMBC campus in Catonsville, MD, and requires occasional travel within Maryland (approximately 10%). Must provide own transportation.
Requires successful completion of human subjects research ethical training (training provided by University).
Master’s degree in public health or related field preferred.
Prior experience in research or project coordination preferred. Coursework in bio-statistics and experience with statistical analysis software preferred. Experience conducting qualitative interviews and data analysis is also welcome.

Salary commensurate with experience.
Contractual. The initial contract is for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal.
Note: This position is grant-funded, wherein employment is contingent upon the renewal of the grant.
