The Assistant Director is responsible for the strategic and operational planning, design, implementation, and oversight of OHSUs inpatient coding, HCC and CDI Programs. Inpatient coding teams are responsible for diagnosis coding all inpatient hospital accounts in an accurate and timely manner. The HCC and CDI program aims to improve the overall quality and completeness of outpatient and inpatient clinical documentation to accurately reflect patient care in adherence to industry best practices. The Assistant Director will develop strong partnerships and interface with executive management; stakeholders; clinicians and coding/revenue cycle leadership to fulfill the mission and vision of these programs while ensuring performance, quality, service, and regulatory compliance.

5 years of experience in a Clinical Documentation Integrity program with experience in clinical quality, utilization management, case management, or related field of experience
Minimum of 5 years of management or leadership experience required
Excellent observation skills, analytical and critical thinking, problem solving with good verbal and written communication skills.
Clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology of disease processes.
Strong understanding of reimbursement and coding methodologies and guidelines MS-DRGs; Severity of Illness, Risk of Mortality, Medical Necessity, Core and Quality Measures and impact of Length of Stay
Strong understanding of medical terminology.
Ability to work independently in time sensitive environment.
Time management and project
Ability to plan and perform multi-task projects in a complex and changing environment.
Proficiency with data; metrics; reporting and Excel spreadsheets.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Able to assess and direct departmental work flow and manage people effectively.
Able to write policies, procedures and instructional material.
Ability to work as a team player in a close proximity environment.
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS or CDIP); or certification within 6 months of hire.
Degree in Nursing (RN) preferred
Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred
Minimum of 5-7 years in acute care nursing (RN); management in a large acute care hospital setting
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 CM, HCPCS, CMS E/M guidelines, a thorough knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid regulations, Federal Register, Federal and State Insurance Billing laws and Mandates.
Current unencumbered Oregon RN; or certification as an RHIT/RHIA through AHIMA
