Job Description Summary: Responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating and managing the solicitation of annual and major gifts from individuals and alumni to support University priority initiatives. This development officer will be expected to maintain a rigorous schedule of appointments with prospects each week, coordinating activity with the University's Advancement Office. The purpose of these appointments is to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects with the capability of making significant gifts to Webster University.
Incumbent will report to the Associate Vice President for Advancement.
Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Functional/Technical Skills* Must have strong organizational skills and be a self-starter with the ability to cold-call a plus. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy, with special emphasis on prospect management database application. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, donors, and the public. Attendance required at key events that fall on nights and weekends. Requisite Experience* Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in Advancement/Development. A successful track record of meeting annual fundraising goals.
Preferred Qualifications Certified Fund Raising Executive is a plus.
Essential Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities* The Development Officer serves as a member of the Advancement Team and reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Advancement. The Development Officer actively manages a portfolio of alumni and individual prospects capable of making Webster Society level (>$1500) and major gifts, and creates and maintains a detailed moves management plan for top tier prospects to support achievement of objectives. A minimum of 120 face-to-face visits annually is expected. The Development Officer has an annual goal for individual Webster Society membership. The Development Officer works collaboratively with the Deans to effectively cultivate, solicit and steward major donor alumni and individual prospects, including members of the Advisory Boards. The Development Officer is an active participant in the prospect management process and works through established channels to identify and qualify prospective donors as to their interest and capacity in funding University projects and programs. The Development Officer provides support to the Annual Fund by facilitating the process for messaging, approvals, etc. Assists in the preparation of materials for University staff and administration to aid Deans, Advisory Boards, University President and Board of Trustees in solicitations as necessary. Travels annually, as assigned, to engage donors and prospects in markets outside St. Louis; qualifies and develops cultivation and solicitation strategies for these prospects as appropriate. Utilizes special events, including donor recognition activities to thank, cultivate and encourage renewed and increased giving from current and prospective donors. The Development Officer writes timely contact reports for all captained prospects and summaries of meetings held with Advisory Boards, as appropriate. When necessary, the Development Officer contributes data to departmental reports.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities* Recommends ways to support and advance the strategic goals of the department. Collaborates with other development team members to develop fundraising proposals as needed. Stays abreast of current issues related to the development field; maintains contact with professional peers internally and externally.
