Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Operations, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for generating a range of financial and analytical reports to assist in ensuring the overall financial health of the VPS OOD. The incumbent will monitor budgets, track expenses and serve as the departmental resource for processing expenses via internal systems, ensuring compliance with all University policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial and analytical capabilities, including Excel skills, superior writing ability and have an acute attention to detail. The candidate should also be poised, mature, professional, and able to act with discretion while working with senior staff members, major gift officers, and partners in various Columbia University service groups. The position will interact with a wide range of University officers, faculty, and external parties on financial matters to aid the department in reaching its financial and operational goals.
Audit financial expenditures including both non-salary and personnel expenses via Columbia reporting tools to regularly query and scrutinize expense data; ensure expenses are accurate and proper chart string categorization and funding sources are used; track processed expenses against various departmental budgets and update associated departmental, project, and event budgets for review by the Senior Director - 15%
Review charges from Columbia University's central service providers (recharge centers) such as the Faculty Club, Luxury Car Service, Telecom, Print Services and CUIMC IT to ensure charges are legitimate and accurate; gather and maintain all backup receipts & documentation from staff; ensure proper chartstring utilization for each charge and make corrections/reallocations as needed through processing Internal Transfers; manage and disseminate chartstring information across the department - 15%
As directed by the Senior Director of Finance and Operations, refresh data in financial reports on a regular basis for review by the Senior Director; refresh financial budgets as needed for review by the Senior Director; assist with ground-level logistics and execution of reporting strategies and automation as directed by Senior Director through the use of various tools including (but not limited to) SSRS, Power BI and Tableau; ensure cleanliness and optimal organization of budgets, reports, and financial documents in shared drives and SharePoint financial sites - 20%
Act as a secondary departmental resource for Purchasing, Accounts Payable, ARC, FDS and Budget Tool requests; process invoices, purchase requisitions/POs, employee reimbursements, Dean's charitable contributions, check requests and internal transfers in ARC; manage the approval process for entries, ensuring all approval and processing steps are completed in a timely fashion; support contract review processes; review all P-Card purchases for cardholders in the department and work with Senior Director to ensure purchases are compliant; coordinate vendor management requests - 15%
Support overall compliance with University financial policies; query financial data pertaining to University Endowment funds and current-use gift accounts; refresh Endowment market value reports and one-sheets on a monthly basis; together with the Senior Director, assist CUIMC Events and Alumni Affairs with financial matters and budgeting requests - 10%
Assist with the fulfillment of monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc financial reporting requests and institutional surveys; assist with the preparation of annual operating budget packets and associated reports; assist with quarterly closing and annual fiscal-year closing processes - 10%
Provide support to the Senior Director of Finance and Operations; assist with special strategic projects; other duties as assigned. - 15%
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
Experience with SSRS, PowerBI and Tableau, and Microsoft SharePoint
