Job Summary: This position performs a variety of skilled tasks involved in the care, maintenance and removal of ornamental and large shade trees using specialized vehicles and equipment; operates hand and power tools in pruning and tree maintenance; installs cables and braces in trees to assure that trees or limbs will fall in designated areas; climbs trees using ropes, hooks or cables; operates a bucket truck; must work closely with Horticulturists to identify and plan work activities. Must drive and safely operate a hydraulic lift bucket truck. May act as a lead worker.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school education or GED; a minimum of two years paid work experience as an Arborist or Tree Trimmer. Demonstrated ability to drive and safely operate a hydraulic lift bucket truck. Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job. Must be able to perform those items in the Job Summary and in Essential functions. Must have the ability to use job-related tools and equipment and chemical supplies. Must have valid U.S. driver's license & Class B CDL. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Additional Requirements: Must be able to work overtime, sometimes on short notice. This position will often require long days, on your feet, standing, walking, lifting, and carrying. Over 8 hour days may be required based on the condition of the grounds and campus event schedules. This position will be required to work during all climates of weather, hot, cold rain, etc., depending on season.
