The University of Minnesota (UMN) has launched a major initiative to establish a Medical Discovery Team (MDT) focused on development and application of cutting edge, innovative technologies, such as in-vivo multiphoton microscopy, for imaging neuronal activity (https://med.umn.edu/brain-science). The MDT is currently seeking applications for a tenure-track (Assistant Professor) or tenured (Associate or Full Professor - Job Opening ID 334378) faculty position in theoretical or computational neuroscience. Successful candidates should have experience developing predictive models of neural activity at the cellular or circuit level that inform data analysis and experimental design. Collaborations with the experimental neuroscience groups within the team would focus on the following themes: sensory systems, neurovascular coupling, function and development of cortical columns, single-neuron computation, and learning.
The ultimate goal is to establish an MDT of approximately six faculty members focused on applying optical approaches to cellular and systems neuroscience. The efforts of the MDT will also complement and exploit the existing strength in magnetic resonance-based imaging at UMN so as to develop a comprehensive brain imaging program that can provide circuit level information from synapses and single cells to the whole brain. The State of Minnesota has appropriated significant funds over the next eight to ten years for the University of Minnesota Medical School to create a world-class program and facilities in this area.
Candidates will have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or similar degree in neuroscience, mathematics, computer science, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related discipline. Appropriate tenure home departments would depend on the expertise, background and interest and could include: Neuroscience, Computer Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or be able to secure permanent residence status.
