Job Description Summary The Assistant Director is responsible for the effective management of a caseload of approximately 10-15% of aid applicants. Duties include review of financial aid applications using both Federal and Institutional Methodology and proactive customer service to students (and families) throughout their enrollment at Bentley. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director is also responsible for managing the timely processing of federal, state, and private loans for students and parents. This requires close coordination with financial aid counseling staff regarding new awards and changes to existing awards to ensure students receive loan amounts in compliance with federal guidelines. As part of the operations team, the Assistant Director supports the reporting functions that enable application review, awarding, and disbursement of financial aid.
Counselor - Manage a caseload of 10-15% of aid applicants (approximately 350 - 500 families) in all aspects of financial aid including initial inquiries, application review, awarding, appeal, counseling, etc. Ability to provide proactive customer service is essential. Assists in various enrollment management activities, including traveling to local recruitment events, and representing the financial assistance office at various admission functions.
Federal and Alternative Loans - Process student and parent loans through a federal origination and disbursement system. Communicate with students and parents regarding loan requirements. Adjust awards as needed. Reconcile federal disbursement records on a monthly basis. Process private alternative loans for students and parents using ELM software. Provide updates to financial aid staff regarding private loan options, repayment terms, rates, etc.
Operations - Support the Senior Associate Director for Operations and provide back-up support to operations and records area as needed. Duties may include running reports to identify need for data cleaning, running processes to disburse financial aid, and generating management reports for monitoring awarding processes and forecasting.
The student loan function requires constant student contact to provide loan status information, inform students of loan requirements and answer both general and specific questions regarding loans, borrowing, and repayment.
Excellent customer service attitude is essential.
The Assistant Director will be expected to complete other special projects as assigned.
Bachelor's degree, with experience in financial aid office strongly preferred.
Minimum two years of in a fast-paced, office environment.
Excellent attention to detail is essential to ensure accurate data is maintained, especially with regard to federal loan program information.
Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
Travel-related work is infrequent. However, overtime work is expected during peak periods and attendance at two annual Admissions events is required.
