Job Summary/Basic Function: BASICJOBDESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Football Coach is responsible for leading the football program at Lamar University. The Head Football Coach is responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of operating a NCAA Division I football championship subdivision program within the mission of the University and its philosophy of intercollegiate athletics. The head football coach will guide and actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically, acquire a degree and represent the University with the highest integrity. The head football coach directly supervises the offensive and defensive coordinators, all assistant coaches, student-athletes, video personnel and managers. The coach is also responsible for budget development and administration, recruitment of student-athletes, adherence to NCAA, Conference and University regulations with regard to recruiting, admission standards and eligibility, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, the scheduling of athletic practices and contests, and the establishment of effective media relations. The head coach will play a major role in fundraising activities and serve as a representative of the University to the outside community when appropriate.
ESSENTIALJOBFUNCTIONS: As Head Football Coach, direct involvement with all administrative and organizational aspects of an NCAA Division I FCS program under the supervision of the Director of Athletics.
Supervision of offensive and defensive coordinators, assistant coaches, administrative assistant with responsibilities for the overall operation of the program.
Coordinate all coaching assignments for the entire football coaching staff including film breakdown, on field responsibilities and all administrative responsibilities with regards to team and recruiting travel.
Supervision of all student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players' health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation.
Responsible for recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes to meet the University's admission standards and enrollment goals.
In cooperation with the Associate AD for Academics uphold all University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility.
Enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations in regard to the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs by team members.
Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes.
Recommend to the Athletics Director, an annual budget for the program and operate within the approved budget.
Provide signature review of all expenditures within the football operating budget, for submission to the Athletics Director.
Designate the responsibility for all team and travel, meals and ensure lodging with prompt resolution of accounts.
Assist the Director of Athletics with preparation of competition schedule.
Participate in public relations and promotions activities.
Cultivate and solicit donors to meet the fundraising goals as established by the Director of Athletics.
Establish and maintain positive relations with the media.
Knowledge of and adherence to all University, NCAA and Conference Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures with special attention to recruiting, eligibility, admissions and financial aid.
Minimum Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required. Minimum of five (5) five years coaching experience with preference given to head coaching and collegiate coaching experience. Need to have demonstrated ability to organize and develop a comprehensive recruiting plan. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; strict adherence to established NCAA, Southland Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations required. A violation of these rules and regulations can lead to disciplinary action including termination; proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, admissions and financial aid officers, fellow employees, program boosters, and the public.
