The Department of Horticulture invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
This position will lead the field research activities in weed management in perennial horticultural crops. The incumbent is responsible for design and implementation of research protocols, compiling research reports, outreach activities, and equipment maintenance. Other responsibilities include editing extension and research publications as needed, and supervising undergraduate and summer employees.
College of Agricultural Sciences faculty are committed to enhancing student success by engaging students in quality academic, research, internships, global studies, and other experiential learning opportunities. Requires Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to the field in which research is being conducted.
B.S. degree in Crop Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, Plant Science, Agricultural Science, Agronomy, or related field.
Ability to contribute to the ongoing review of project performance and establishment of short-term objectives. Able to coordinate and organize simultaneous activities. Self-motivated.
Able to communicate effectively in English in writing and orally with individuals whose first language is other than English.
Possess sufficient discretion to manage confidential information appropriately, as when hiring or terminating student workers.
Experience with data management and statistical software (spreadsheets, word processing, and email), and ability to learn new procedures, technics, or software programs quickly.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to team-oriented management. Ability to clearly communicate job expectations and provide training when needed.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Must have or be able to obtain an Oregon Pesticide Applicator license within six months of the start date and maintain it throughout employment.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Operate a motor vehicle.
Work with farm equipment.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
May need to work after regular working hours and occasionally on weekends.
