The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) is seeking to hire a Director of Enterprise Cloud Computing. This position will manage the HPC environment and provide technical leadership for the adoption of Cloud technologies in the IGM. This position will enable IGM research initiatives and projects by designing and implementing solutions using Google Cloud Platform.
Articulating and maintaining a Cloud Strategy, with emphasis on Google Cloud provider.
Providing intellectual and practical leadership across the enterprise in the adoption of Cloud technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
Analyze the current architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements.
Defining high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the current and future state. Assess near-term needs to establish business priorities.
Be hands-on in developing prototypes and conducting Proof of Concepts.
Act as a trusted advisor and consultant to IGM researchers on all things GCP.
Collaborate with Google and its vendor ecosystem of Product Managers and Engineers.
Provides key input to short and long-term department strategy and budget planning.
Maintains, tunes, and manages the SGE cluster and storage in production. Defines and deploys a comprehensive computational and data vision. Identifies and communicates system advantages/disadvantages and tradeoffs.
Troubleshoots isolates and resolves application, system and other technical problems (hardware, software, and network). Actively monitors the systems.
Provides guidance and assistance to the team for system performance optimization.
Designs and develops scripts for system administration, monitoring and usage reporting.
Researches deploy and optimize resource management and scheduling software and policies. Develops and implements storage policies.
Participates in the integration of HPC resources with laboratory equipment such as sequencers, etc. Incorporate and link data and compute resources.
Works well on a team and across teams and with researchers. Excellent communication skills.
Mentors others based on experience and knowledge of computer organization, storage systems, network, software stack, and operating systems in HPC environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, and System Analysis.
Masters degree preferred, or equivalent experience, plus at least 8 years of related experience in information technology, including 5 years of demonstrated technical experience in high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure and computing services and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience with GCP (esp. Google Cloud Life Sciences architecture), Python and Docker
Knowledge of Java, AWS, Microservices, R and Kubernetes (GKE) is a plus
Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and close out multi-person projects within established deadlines
Possess strong (oral and written) communication and presentation skills to clearly articulate project status and deliver training for a broad audience at all levels
Deep understanding of cloud design patterns, cloud operations and cloud cost models with hands-on ability to implement best practices or suggest improvements
Previous experience establishing enterprise strategy and architecture for cloud computing, with a track record of agile project delivery
Proven experience working with company leadership and delivery teams in an influential role to establish a vision and deliver architectural results. Must be capable of leading and facilitating groups of business and/or technical team members to solve problems and deliver change into the organization
Excellent "Soft Skills" and ability to communicate seamlessly between strategic and tactical, business and technology, and from conceptual to physical
