Under the general direction of the Director, this position supports research, academic, practice and administrative technologies within the College of Nursing. As part of the information technology department, the technician is responsible for daily tasks involving support for software and hardware used in the college including but not limited to technology-enhanced classrooms, web-conferencing, simulation, testing, networking and individual computer/office equipment support.
Technology support Sets up, maintains, tears down, and troubleshoots technology hardware and software including audio-video equipment and non-traditional technology hardware such as simulation manikins. Provides first line support via phone, email and in person to college faculty and staff for computer, printer, networking, technology-enhanced classrooms and other technology hardware and software issues. Sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots student computer lab machines (laptops). Provides technical support to students and faculty for online testing and runs reports as needed. Updates website content as needed. Assists in office equipment setup as needed for new employees or as offices are re-assigned. Tests software and hardware for compatibility, functionality, and good working order. Maintains and repairs hardware and software as recommended by manufacturers.
Technology Tracking Assists in tracking of equipment (including checkout/returns), updates and maintains the technology support calendar, uses ticket tracking system to track support issues. Runs reports on usage, issues, etc, pertaining to technology use. Assists in warranty tracking and cycle of maintenance for technology, including audio-video equipment and non-traditional technology. Updates campus-wide systems such as netreg as information changes. Prepares reports from these systems as needed.
Technology Administration Supports the Director in documenting procedures for self and other users, including how to use technology, best practices, etc. As requested by IT Director, researches and recommends new technologies and keeps up to date on technology usage for research, academics, practice, administration and simulation. Orders technology (computers, etc.) as directed. Serves on committees at the college and campus level as needed. Works with University IT (OIT) to ensure timely and proactive support to end users and compliance with University-wide policies and procedures.
