The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Washington, School of Pharmacy invites applications from highly motivated candidates for a full-time, 12-month service period, non- tenure track faculty position at the Clinical Assistant Professor level.
The Department of Pharmacy has diverse faculty (50 faculty with over 700 affiliate and volunteer clinical faculty) with nationally-recognized expertise in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacology, geriatric pharmacy, pharmacogenomics, translational research, pharmacoepidemiology, health economics, outcomes research and health policy evaluation. In addition, faculty and students in the School of Pharmacy are active and effective participants in assuring progressive pharmacy practice laws, resulting in the State of Washington being one of the leaders in pharmacy practice advancement. Collaborative opportunities exist at the UW across all SOP departments, as well as in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, Dentistry, the Institute of Translational Health Sciences , Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and PATH. The Plein Center for Geriatric Pharmacy Research, Education & Outreach (in the SOP) was established in 2016 with the generous support of Drs. Joy and Elmer Plein. The establishment of the Plein Center allowed continued building on a 30+ year foundation in educating pharmacists to care for medically complex older adults and to expand the SOP's role as a national leader in geriatrics research, education and outreach committed to optimizing older adults' medication outcomes to promote healthy aging. The Plein Certificate has been offered since 1986 and is a key program of the Center. Since its inception, more than 400 students have received the certificate. Plein Center faculty also conduct innovative clinical and translational research, receiving funding for federal, industry, and foundation grants.
As a member of the Plein Center Leadership team, the Clinical Assistant Professor will be leading educational, clinical and outreach efforts with existing and new practice partners (e.g. senior independent living and assisted living communities) in the greater Seattle area. This position will serve as the Assistant Director for Outreach for the Plein Center and will oversee efforts related to the outreach mission including preceptor training and development related to geriatric pharmacy, precepting student-led outreach activities in the community, and developing new geriatrics-related community partnerships. The Outreach Core also seeks to share new research findings with communities through innovative communication strategies. The candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarly activities as defined in the department-based clinical faculty guidance document , and be active in service to the School, university, and/or professional organizations. Teaching responsibilities may include contributing to core content (e.g., disease-specific expertise and advanced clinical practice). Success in this position will require a deep understanding of the emerging needs for pharmacy education in geriatrics, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
Minimum requirements: Applicants must have a PharmD degree (or foreign equivalent), and 2 years of post-graduate training (PGY1 or two residency), fellowship, or equivalent clinical practice experience. Preference will be given to candidates trained in geriatrics, however, candidates who have recent direct patient care experience in general internal medicine or family medicine will also be considered. Board certification in geriatrics (BCGP) is encouraged. Washington State Pharmacist licensure will be required
