University Advancement and Office of the Provost has an outstanding opportunity for a Director for Advancement for the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Academic Affairs.
POSITION PURPOSE UW Advancement is seeking a dynamic fundraising professional to serve as the Director for Advancement for the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Academic Affairs. This person is responsible for providing leadership to attract private support, enhance strategic marketing and communications with internal and external constituencies, and strengthen advocacy and engagement among alumni and community partners to advance the mission and values of Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Academic Affairs.
Uniquely positioned, this role will sit on the executive team for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) Advancement, within the Office of the Provost, driving integrated fundraising for student access, success and diversity across the university.
The Director takes primary direction from the Assistant Vice Provost of Academic & Student Affairs and is jointly supervised by the Vice President, Student Life, Dean and Vice Provost, Undergraduate Academic Affairs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES Fundraising and Strategy Development Identify, foster the engagement, and facilitate the solicitation of alumni and friends for leadership and principle gifts in support of the unit fundraising priorities (including capital projects), as articulated through a constituency based fundraising program.
Create and execute strategies to qualify and build strong, long-term relationships between unit leaders and prospects who can invest significantly as philanthropists and/or advocates.
Create and direct strategic external outreach activities of the units with an aim of building and expanding the units’ base of engaged constituents. This includes helping develop key messaging to drive funding priorities in collaboration with unit marketing and communications staff for written proposals, informational materials, and endowment agreements.
As part of the university-wide advancement planning process, work closely with Assistant Vice Provost, ASA, to establish annually with the Vice President, Division of Student Life, and Dean and Vice Provost, Undergraduate Academic Affairs, goals, objectives and strategies for the units’ advancement activities.
Actively manage a portfolio of current and new prospects, meet assigned performance metrics, and develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for each assigned prospect.
Leadership and Team Management Lead and support a team of professionals who will implement all aspects of the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Academic Affairs advancement programs; including annual gifts, major and planned gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, donor recognition and stewardship.
Drive and inspire successful attainment of key performance metrics and provide day-to-day management of operations.
Provide leadership and training for the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Academic Affairs advancement team to retain and develop high performing staff in collaboration with ASA advancement leadership.
Work in collaboration with Asst. Vice Provost, ASA to staff Vice President, Dean, and other unit leadership for high net worth prospect qualification, engagement, solicitation and stewardship.
Serve as compelling spokesperson for units’ funding priorities and advancement efforts.
Manage and reconcile balanced budgets for the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Academic Affairs in partnership with Asst. Vice Provost, ASA.
Regularly evaluate programs, assess progress toward goals, and report on results to the Vice President, Dean and Asst. Vice Provost.
Program Development and Management Actively participate in leadership activities for ASA, Student Life, and UAA as determined by the respective head of each division. This includes, but is not limited to attending regular staff meetings, retreats, and strategic planning sessions.
Partner with Director of Parent & Family Programs in curating parental involvement and philanthropy.
Help provide a baseline of services and education in support of program led advancement efforts for stewardship, communications, alumni engagement and annual giving.
Collaborate with other advancement officers as their units develop and pursue student success related goals at the undergraduate level.
Provide training and leadership for unit leaders and program directors to mutually plan and share information enhancing efforts to identify, engage, solicit and/or steward major donors, fundraising advisory board members, friends, alumni, community and corporate leaders.
Participate cooperatively in the University’s prospect management and tracking system.
In partnership with Director of Marketing and Communication, provide strategic direction for comprehensive communication plan for internal and external constituencies that will promote private fundraising priorities and objectives for the unit.

REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating, and soliciting major gifts, preferably in a complex higher education environment with management and operational experience. Equivalent combination of comparable knowledge and skills may substitute for education and/or experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Advanced degree. Familiarity with R-1 level research university environment. Student development experience plus Delta training.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Ability to work a flexible schedule for events scheduled on evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally as necessary and includes having reliable transportation for local travel that will allow attendance to meetings in a reasonable time frame.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
