Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) is seeking a talented professional for the role of Systems Analyst in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR). The Systems Analyst will be responsible for the successful operation and evolution of OVPRâ™s enterprise systems. They will engage with and interpret the needs of Pennâ™s research community, including faculty, research staff, and administrative staff.
The OVPR collaborates within Penn and with external stakeholders to promote scholarship, uphold research integrity, and foster discoveries across Pennâ™s $1.3B Research Enterprise. The OVPR oversees research support services, regulatory bodies, multi-disciplinary campus-wide Centers and Institutes, technology transfer, and commercial partnering.
Maintain systems, configurations, and updates for OVPR enterprise systems, ensuring effective operations, processes, performance, and integrations
Develop and/or manage vendor relationships and coordinate across technical stakeholders and non-technical stakeholders within Penn to ensure systems are performing optimally
Serve as an expert or lead for specific applications
Analyze and translate functional requirements and advise users in the planning, implementation, and use of specific software solutions to address business requirements and shepherd forward progress of designing, delivering and supporting quality applications
Work collaboratively and cooperatively across the research enterprise supporting end users
Report to the Director of Information Systems in Pennâ™s OVPR
Business Systems Analyst
Bachelorâ™s degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), business or related field required, advanced degree preferred. Minimum 2 yearsâ™ experience in IT application management, integration, administration or systems analysis, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience eliciting business needs from clients and transforming them into requirements and software solutions.
Ability to review data, identify patterns and draw conclusions.
Experience with data integration.
Excellent customer service with the ability to exercise excellent judgment, tact, confidentiality and diplomacy in all interactions with the Penn Community.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with solid interpersonal and collaborations skills.
Working knowledge of application design/development/deployment practices and methodologies preferred.
Previous experience leveraging service management or ticketing systems preferred.
Aptitude and interest in quality assurance, usability, and exceptional user experience preferred.
Sr Systems Analyst
Same qualifications as the Systems Analyst, with a minimum of four years experience in aforementioned areas, with demonstrated increase in responsibility and complexity as well as the following:
Working knowledge of program/project management and process improvement.
Experience executing all levels of testing (Unit, System, Integration, Regression).
Demonstrated knowledge of university operations and systems.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, as well as taking a leadership role when required.
