The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for two (2) Trades Specialist I positions and a Trades Specialist Lead II position in the Plumbing shop. U nder the supervision of the Supervisor/Building Trades and Lead the Trades Specialist I positions perform journeyman level pipefitting, steam fitting, maintenance, installation, and repair work as outlined by University guidelines. Shall provide guidance to staff as assigned. The Lead position will perform lead journeyman level plumbing, installation, and repair work across campus.
In order to be successful in these positions, the ideal candidates will:
Trades Specialist I:
Develops requisitions for parts, supplies, etc. from Warehouse and vendors, ensuring timely delivery and sequencing. Performs maintenance duties as assigned.
Maintains and utilizes personal protective equipment when performing work or entering hazardous areas.
Shall interpret blueprints and specifications; shall requisition parts, materials, and supplies from Warehouse for jobs as assigned; shall draw line drawings as required. Will also be responsible for tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Shall leave work areas in a neat and orderly manner. Job duties are not to be considered so specific as to exclude any work which may cross tasks or other assigned duties.
May be required to perform general maintenance duties in assisting other trades and operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Trades Specialist Lead II:
Function as a team leader, providing guidance to journeyman, trades workers, and any other support personnel as required
Make work assignments for the crew to ensure proper quality work is completed in a timely fashion and complete daily reports on progress.
Operate test equipment to inspect and diagnose piping systems, steam traps, heat exchangers, and vales, as well as hand tools and power equipment.
Perform general maintenance duties, as needed, either in relation to normal journeyman responsibilities or assisting other trades, such as low level electrical connections, lighting, sheet metal fabrication, painting, carpentry, etc.
The Division of Facilities and Services encompasses seven units that are integral to the University's success. Facilities and Services takes care of every aspect of WVU so that its employees, students and guests are safe and satisfied on campus.
Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pay Grades: 13 & 15, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
For Trades Specialist I:
Broad trade knowledge or specific technical education received from a formal apprentice or vocational training program of up to 18 months beyond high school in the piping or steam-fitting field.
At least two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of piping and steam distribution systems
For Trades Specialist Lead II:
Job requires broad trade knowledge or specific technical education received from a formal registered apprentice or vocational training program of up to 18 months beyond high school
At least two (2) years of related experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered\
Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and requirements pertaining to maintenance and construction
Knowledge of basic principles in areas of blueprint reading, general mathematics, applied chemistry, and physics
Valid driver's license required for driving state vehicles around campus
Journeyman pipefitter or steamfitter certification preferred
Physical requirements include the ability to:
Perform extremely strenuous lifting of items weighing more than 75 pounds
Perform deep bending, climbing, and/or working in difficult positions for long periods of time
Climb heights more than 10 feet
Work in inclement weather conditions, as well as extremely hot or cold areas, such as steam tunnels or coolers
Use excellent hand to eye coordination and to hear and interpret sounds in work areas
