The Accounting Technician is responsible for processing all types of financial transactions for the departments that are supported by the finance shared service team. This position will work with all fund types and numerous sources, including: state, trust, facilities and administration, expendable gifts, endowments, and contract and grants.
Position responsibilities include managing state, trust, and overhead accounts, managing post-award grant activity/transactions, accounts payable and receivable, voucher requests and travel reimbursements, purchasing card reconciliation and university billing, and monthly account reconciliation. This position will also process payments, reimbursements, journal entries, purchase orders, independent contractor requests, and coordinate vendor activities. As directed this position will also assist in the generation of financial reports and participate in special financial projects and initiatives.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Candidates must have experience reading, analyzing, and reconciling financial data, as well as experience viewing and creating reports in financial systems and Microsoft Excel. Candidates must be:
Proficient in accounting principles and standards,
Capable of consistently delivering high levels of customer services, and
Able to work both independently and as a member of a high performing team.
Experience with UNC-CH financial policies and systems, including InfoPorte, ConnectCarolina, purchasing cards, and web travel are strongly preferred, as is experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
