The Department of Art & Art History at the University of Texas at Arlington seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Painting and Area Coordinator of Painting, at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2020.
Candidate must be well trained in all modes of painting and various mediums and techniques in 2-D art. The candidate would need to be a versatile artist in terms of techniques, materials use and contemporary approaches to painting. The successful applicant will be expected to act as Painting Area Coordinator, and to participate in student advising and mentoring activities, faculty mentoring and supervision in the painting area, facilities maintenance and budget of the painting areas, as well as other university and departmental committees. Facilities maintenance includes safety instruction, which is critical to insure a safe environment, entails chemical inventories, shop and tool use and safety, faculty and work-study training, studio cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service.
Teaching specializations: Applicants need to be qualified to teach all aspects of painting and painting support preparation and understand and communicate safety concerns and issues relating to painting materials. Candidates must be able to teach techniques and materials use in both traditional and contemporary painting practice and are well versed in contemporary drawing. All studio faculty work with MFA students in Intermedia either in coursework, in committees or as Committee Chair. This is a tenure track hire with an expected teaching load of 3/2 to begin in September 2020. Candidates must be artists demonstrating the potential to establish a significant track record of exhibitions and involvement in the field. Candidates must be capable of inspired criticism and dedicated teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Minimum qualifications include an MFA degree in painting and preferably 2 years teaching experience at the university level.
