We are an outpatient U of M satellite facility located in Ann Arbor, MI, seeking an energetic full time Occupational Therapist to be a part of our Wheelchair Seating Team.

This position is responsible for the evaluation and clinical documentation of patients referred to Wheelchair Seating Service for the procurement of durable medical equipment, complex rehab technology, or other related mobility equipment.
Evaluating and Planning Patient Care
Participate in a team setting with Wheelchair Seating Service Clinic for patient evaluation and recommendation of assistive technology.
Assist in the coordination and prioritization of patient care when referrals exceed staffing levels or there is an unscheduled absence on the team.
Assist with the interpretation of referrals to ensure appropriate type of appointment is made.
Ensure the appropriate precautions are identified and followed during treatment.
Evaluate and re-evaluate patients appropriately and accurately.
Establish goals based on the evaluation findings, functional limitations, patient/family input and the age of the patient.
Determine appropriate assistive and mobility equipment and facilitate obtaining equipment.
Develop focused individually designed Letters of Medical Necessity based on the goals and modify as appropriate for the patient population and age of the patients.
Provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals and participate in equipment trials and deliveries as much as possible.
Staff offsite clinics as needed.
Complete offsite evaluations as necessary.
Practices within the scope of license, certification or registration.
Complies with all applicable continuing education requirements.
Providing Patient Care
Manage daily schedule.
Offer recommendations that will help individuals learn work/life management skills and within the limits of their physical or mental capabilities.
Utilize independent clinical decision making on a daily basis.
Instruct patients and caregivers in exercises and functional mobility activities to assist the patient in reaching established goals.
Ensure staff and patient safety throughout the continuum of care through demonstration and education.
Other Related Duties:
Communication and Documentation of Patient Care
Maintain ongoing communication with all personnel providing any part of the patient’s POC.
Consult with, and serve as a resource to, other health care professionals regarding equipment recommendation and projected treatment goals.
Communicate and work cooperatively with other health care professionals to ensure the coordinated care of patients, and provide appropriate recommendations.
Utilize medical information systems to obtain current patient information.
Complete timely and legible patient documentation, Letters of Medical Necessity and billing documentation according to established division standards.
Education of Self and Others
Keep current in clinical practice by working with and sharing information with team members and through continuing education opportunities.
Complete orientation checklists, core competencies, and clinical competencies.
Assist in orienting staff.
Provide feedback and act on feedback received in a professional manner.
Complies with all University of Michigan and departmental standards and expectations.
Supports the department’s commitment to continuous improvement activities and principles through positive and respectful contribution in all problem-solving and change processes at Home Care Services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Current Michigan Licensure in Occupational Therapy and member of NBCOT.
Bachelor of Science Degree or Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy..
Ability to understand and communicate information both orally and in writing so others will understand.
Comply with Health System and Division regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to travel from point A to point B throughout the workday as assigned.
Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and supporting patients throughout the entire work day.
Posses a working knowledge of Wheelchair mobility and Seating requirements for various ages and diagnoses.
Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in a neuro/rehab setting and a strong passion for the evaluation of persons with neurological disorders.
Current BCLS certification (CPR)
