The Senior Functional Analyst position is a member of the Graduate Recruitment & Admissions team in Information Services & Technology (IS&T) at Boston University. This is an advanced professional role that may work on multiple projects as a project leader or frequently as the subject matter expert. The Senior Functional Analyst is responsible for the business and functional analysis of packaged and custom applications that enable Boston Universitys Graduate Admissions service component. Graduate Admissions functions include on-line application, application management, data export management, student system interface, payment processing, and document collection and export. Graduate Admissions is a component of the Student Systems client service. The Senior Functional Analyst will participate in or lead projects that require working with clients on business and functional analysis across a variety of business processes enabled by packaged and custom developed applications. This individual will coordinate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including the Provost office, graduate school admissions staff, vendor contacts, and multiple technical teams. Responsibilities also include coaching and mentoring junior technical staff. This individual will work with development/technology teams to ensure functional requirements translate successfully into systems solutions, including the definition of data mappings for required integrations. The Senior Functional Analyst will participate in testing new functionality, regression testing existing functionality, integration testing, and User Acceptance Testing. The Graduate Recruitment & Admissions Senior Functional Analyst will also be responsible for operational support and maintenance of various applications enabling university processes and systems. This includes engaging clients and technical resources to prioritize and work on support tickets, proposing solutions to resolve business and service problems and contributing to service improvement initiatives. Operational support will also include working with the vendors of packaged applications on problem resolution and understanding functional impacts related to patches and upgrades.
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or another related field. Or equivalent work experience
8+ years of work experience as a project manager, business or functional analyst with demonstrated knowledge in information systems software implementations, preferably multiple implementations.
Higher Education implementation experience is desirable
Experience with Graduate Recruitment and/or Admissions business processes is desirable. Experience with Liaison International products is also desirable.
Understanding of project management concepts and frameworks such as waterfall, Prince 2, Agile Scrum
Project management experience is preferred
Project management certification such as PCI PMP or Agile Scrum Master is desirable
Experience working on projects/issues of medium to high complexity that require demonstrated knowledge across multiple functional areas and business segments
Collaborative and supportive approach to working with numerous and diverse groups of people
Effective oral and written communication skills to work with subject matter experts (SMEs) and business partners within the University to elicit the information necessary for technical design
Experience coaching and mentoring junior technical staff
Experience with business process and information systems modeling techniques such as UML or BPMN
Experience with development and execution of functional test cases
Experience with development and delivery of end user training for packaged and custom applications
Intermediate to advanced computer skills in the following software packages: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and Visio
Experience and/or certification in ITIL service management practices is desirable
Deadline driven with little oversight
